Weird car of the week 20th November 2005
Sunday, 20 November 2005
Dacia is a Romanian car company that started around 1968, it is partly owned by Renault and their first cars were Renaults built in Romania with Dacia badges.

Their most popular model had been their version of the Renault 12. The Renault 12 was sold in Australia from around 1970 until 1976 but in Romania it is still sold new today with a new modern front end treatment, but only in a ute form (sold as the Range Pickup), the Dacia 1300 sedan and wagon was phased out in 2003.

Renault has designed a new car known as the Logan that is exclusively designed to be made in countries like Romania, Russia, Morocco, Colombia and Iran. The Logan is Renault’s first car where the chief criteria was the price, reliability and durability also was a target as the Dacia 1300 series were well know across Eastern Europe as being poorly built and very unreliable. Romanian roads are full of the horrible Dacia 1300 thanks to strict import rules that existed until a few years ago, now with increasing competition Dacia are trying to re-establish their name as a quality car builder with the new Renault designed Logan.
