Weird car of the week 19th March 2006
Sunday, 19 March 2006
This week’s weird car of the week is the ARGO autonomous vehicle project developed by Italy’s Department of Information Technology and the University of Parma, PARMA, Italy.

The car itself is pretty much a stock standard Lancia Thema 2000 but with some interesting modifications, in the boot there is a Pentium 200 PC with a inverter to power it as well as a power supply to power two cameras and a motor that attaches to the steering wheel.

The car is capable of driving itself along a freeway and uses feedback from the cameras and a speed sensor on wheels hooked up to the computer in the boot. The computer runs Linux with some software to developed by the uni to control the driving of the car.

The car was put on a 2000klm driving test around Italy in 1998 and performed faultlessly.
