Hongqi Century Star

The Hongqi Century Star is a popular car with China’s government and officials. Based on the old Audi 100 of the early 1990s,  the Hongqi is made by China’s First Auto Works or FAW. 80% of the Hongqi car is locally produced; it still has a very Audi look about despite a new grill treatment.

Iran's Paykan

The Paykan is a car built by the Iranian company Iran Khodro, based on the 1966 Hillman Hunter, the Pakyan came about after the Iranian government set up the nationally owned car factory to produce cheap cars for the Iranian people.

The British 1950s sports car inspired and Micra Nissan based Figaro was a limited edition sports style coupe that was only available in Japan in 1991. The retro 2 door is covered in chrome and has gained a cult following.

Honda S600

The Honda S600 was one of Honda’s first mass produced cars called the S600 because of its engine size (600cc) it was released in 1963, there were other similar Honda’s like the S360 and S500 that were released about the same time but only the S600 made it to Australia in 1965.

Daihatsu midget

This week’s weird car of the week is the Daihatsu Midget, Released in 1958 it was one of Daihatsu’s first cars. It was a single seater 3 wheeled delivery truck with a 1 cyl 2 stroke air cooled engine, the first model used a handlebar instead of a steering wheel and used a kick starter.

This weeks weird car of the week is the AVE Mizar.

The AVE Mizar was a 1973 project by a former Northrop engineer to develop a flying car, It basically was a Cessna Skymaster rear attached to Ford Pinto, Production was scheduled to begin in 1974. AVE stated that you could drive/fly your own Mizar off the lot for between US $18,300 and US$29,000. A few prototypes were built but the project ground to a halt when the developers of the mizar were killed when the the wings of the craft broke away from the car mid flight.  The National Transportation Safety Board reported in addition to poor design and loose parts, that bad welds were partly responsible for the crash.

The MDI Aircar

As the push to find cleaner alternatives to Fossil Fuels accelerates one new car company is planning to make a car that runs on thin air. using compressed air the MDI Air Car is capable of a top speed of 110 km/h and can travel 300 kilometres on one tank of fuel and at a cost of just a penny per kilometre. All of this at "zero pollution". In fact the car cleans the air it uses!

Citroen GS Bi-Rotor


This week we look at the Citroen GS, while many people think the early Citroen's had weird styling and quirky design, one of the weirdest thing about this car was the fact Citroen produced 800 odd rotary powered cars then bought as many as they could back.
